Discomfort now almost completely masked by his excitement, he barked a happy thank you to Rouch when Lilah's idea was accepted. He then looked at the two of them, waiting and listening for further instruction. The wind nuzzled his grey fur, and he felt much more relaxed than he had upon arrival.
As Rouch rose, he bowed his head thankfully and stood after him, tail tucked high between his legs, still unsure of exactly how much submission he should be showing, especially since Lilah still sat. When she stood, he became a bit more relaxed once again, but remained overly-submissive.
Whings trotted cheerfully and submissively behind Lilah, bursting with joy. That same silly grin was still set on his jaw, as he excitedly awaited the hunt, and perhaps acceptance. His thoughts were at war - discomfort versus excitement. Excitement was, for the moment, quite ahead in this battle. Then, of course, his grin fell as he realized he knew nothing about these lands.
He'd sensed great disturbance when he'd come in. Brow furrowed and lip thrusted foreward in thought, he wondered the possibility of war. Whings wasn't one for fighting. He'd never been in a pack, but his mother had told him that packs were very close-knit and loyal. If he were in one, he thought, he would most definately fight for them. He nodded to himself proudly, knowing he would be loyal to this pack if they chose to accept him.
He was a bit behind Lilah, not sure if he should trot next to her or not. Poor wolf didn't know anything about pack etiquite. So he stayed behind her, his silly grin appearing once again on his face, waiting for instruction.

"Yeah - you better!" He called off after the pair, obviously directing it toward Lilah. No need to make the possible recruit think he was hunting for a higher rank - which could always through off your game. As soon as the duo were out of site, he trotted after them - careful to keep his distance so they could hunt whatever they were hunting without be disturbed. The prey had gotten more intelligent over the years, realizing now that a single wolf usually meant more. For now Rouch would consider Whings very carefully, for they did need more hunters. Sure they had a few who could hunt, but hunting (un-like anything else) was the thing that kept that pack strong. Without proper nutrition the pack would die off like flies, perhaps one of the reasons why Rouch was close to accepting. This hunting would judge his skills and what rank to put him at, but as far as Beta was concerned he seemed like a nice wolf - if but a bit skittish.
But they'd had a lot of skittish wolves in this area. Especially the little white-back half breed, whose name was not coming to his mind at the moment. Karien? Kaon? Kenrik? Eh, he'd figure it out eventually. She'd not been seen for a while - and Beta was starting to wonder what had happened. Eh, I probably haven't seen her because I've been busy. Nodding at this, he decided it was probably right. Perhaps Whings and the little hybrid would get along well - she herself was not high ranked which seemed to the through the male off.

Lilah was far too busy chasing the wind and frolicing over stones and fallen logs before she even remembered what she was supposed to be doing. The Delta's mind had a tendancy of wandering and she slowed to a trot trying not to look puzzled or embarrassed. She turned her head, sidling up along Whings to grin at him softly. "The richest hunting grounds are just up ahead," she slowed once more to a walk and thrusted her chocolate crowned head in the direction before then, "If you would like, I will scout some prey and you can direct the hunt. Don't be nervous about hunting with another; think of me as a back up. In a pack you are able to take down larger prey."
He had mentioned that he was not used to the pack setting, so she gently tried to persuade him not to feel so indifferent. She was interested to see what he could do. Stopping entirely, she rose her nose to the wind, careful to stay up from the soft breeze so as not to send their scent to their prey before they even found some. Emerald eyes flicked about, not seeing any trace of Rouch, but he could hide quite well when desired.
"Alright. We begin," she nodded to Whings before slinking forward, paws as light as a whisper and muscles tensed to stop if need be. The Delta stalked for a while, ears pricking to every sound and always keeping Whings' position in her view or awareness. There. She froze, lowering her body to the ground. Her eyes narrowed in hesitance however; it was a lone stag. He could be possible to take down but she had always been a little edgy around such large brutes due to her size. She decided to wait and see if Whings would make a move, and if not she would follow his judgement and move on. For now she stood as still as the tree next to her.

Whings trotted joyfully behind Delta, nodding briskly at her every word. He too found himself slightly distracted by the buzzing of insects, but perhaps he was so pumped up in excitement that his mind couldn't contrain itself. This was the biggest adventure he'd ever had part in!
Now that it was just him and Lilah, he was feeling much less in need of his obsessive submission. Though tail still down, he was holding himself much higher than he had around Rouch. Although she was only a step below him, her cheerful manner was so comforting. Although Whings was nervous, once he opened up he was usually quite playful himself.
Once Lilah began to scout, Whings was on high concentration. Standing a bit behind her, he watched her carefully, looking for tips when he himself was scouting. He saw her lower, and his eyes followed her pointed nose to see the stag. He hadn't taken down such a large animal before. He'd taken deer, even a newborn pony, but the stag was big. Whings was quite average sized, and Lilah was small. He considered it for a second, not sure if they should take this risk or move on to find something smaller. However, his mind was set on taking this beast down. He silently lowered his body, and nodded to Lilah, giving her a look to say 'Hell, it's big, but let's go for it'. He was feeling quite risky.
He began to go around to the other side, nodding for Lilah to stay put for the moment. He made sure to be careful as he pawed his way through the earth, keeping his sounds in check with those of the wind. For now, he remained unnoticed by the prey. He knew that any moment, the stag would realize his attatckers. As soon as he was a moderate distance from his partner, he motioned for her to scoot inward to close it in, as he continued around. His body language said that if they remained unnoticed, his plan was to attack the front legs first.
As soon as he reached the other side of the stag - so that he and Lilah were facing each other - he lowered himself and slunk inward just a bit. He noddedly silently to her, telling her to attack the nearer front leg.

(( I'm assuming I should post here, as Rouch can't do an awful lot... >_>; ))
Lilah hesitated for a micro second before nodding toward Whings, keeping her creamed stomach almost brushing the grassy earth, slinking inbetween trees as the two wolves closed in on the stag in the opening. She sniffed gently taking in the prey's scent and felt a hunger urge her on further drawing her attention away from his sharp antlers to his vulnerable legs. Forest-green eyes flicked back over to Whings noting his postion and the signals being given that were voiceless. Her muscles tightened, her upper body growing lower to the ground before she bolted out from the under bush, snarling in a voice of attack before launching her body toward the stag.
It reared with a distressed bellow and soon a pained noise as her canines sunk into the flesh of it's upper foreleg clamping down hard to secure the prey so that Whings could make his attack, and seal the animal's fate. The attention she had been keeping on the mighty animal's antlers however was completely oblivious to the sharp kick she recieved in the ribs from the creature's hind leg. Lilah yelped in pain, hind quarters sinking to the ground with a whimper and yet her jaw stayed locked on the animal's foreleg, more out of anger than anything at being striked.
Water blurred her vision as tears brimmed her eyes from the unexpected pain and she growled loudly for Whings to take the animal down... now.

At her attack, Whings leapt foreward and began nipping at its ankles in hopes of distracting it from Lilah. When she was kicked, he reared around and grabbed hold of the second front leg. As the animal panicked, he bit down harder, keeping close attention to the deadly hind legs. Stag couldn't keep himself up much longer with its two front legs being torn apart.
The grey wolf waited patiently until he felt a crack in bone, and the beast began to bellow loudly. Body came crashing down and Whings was hit with an antler to the shoulder. Adrenaline pumping, he hardly paid attention to the pain, although in the back of his head he knew he'd feel it later. The animal was on the ground, and he now had to get to the throat.
Leaping foreward to avoid being hit again, he knew that in order to kill the beast he was going to be hit by either antler or foreleg. He jumped in, a flailing hoof planting itself on that same shoulder. Whings barked loudly in pain, snarling at the beast. No time for play, now. Pushing his body foreward, he made a grasp for the neck, latching succesfully onto the trachea, biting down until slowly, the creature stopped moving.
Releasing his grab and panting, he now began to feel just how badly he'd been hit. Left shoulder was pounding with pain. But no time to think of his own injury; Lilah was hurt as well. He limped his way to her, plopping down tiredly. "You okay?" he forced the words out, the pain and fatigue mixing and making it a large job just to speak.

Finding a ledge just near the hunting grounds that kept him out of site, Rouch received a rather grand view of the whole hunt. He payed far more attention to Whings then to Lilah, for she knew what she was doing. And, from what he gathered, it seemed this male did too. His body posture was near flawless, hard to believe he'd never hunted with another before. These mental notes were jotted down, what he did right and what he did wrong. For everyone does something wrong, it's canine nature. Not a soul is perfect, and exceptions are rare. As the stag gave Lilah a rather sharp kick, he winced and had to hold himself back from killing the damn thing right then and there. This was not his fight, he'd have to stay back and hope that Whings wouldn't let beloved Delta fade away into darkness. Doubtful that would happen - but Rouch was never really known to look on the brightest side of things.
As the hunt drew to an end, his head bobbed up and down in a nod. Yes - Whings would make a fine hunter. Perhaps even Lead Hunter! Hm, yes. That would be the place to put him. He knew what he was doing, far better then some of the hunters they already had. It only made sense to put him in the lead, though if he screwed up it would be back to a regular hunter. He continued to stay hidden from view, to see how Whings would care for the other in his hunting party. A leader had to know how to help others when his own wounds flare with pain. Rouch did drop from the ridge, however, and found himself a new position just on the outskirts of where the hunt had taken place. As soon as Beta knew what this wolf did with Lilah, he would come out and announce his new rank.
Lead or simply a hunter, this perhaps was the most critical part of the test.

Lilah shook the dazed feeling from her head as the animal finally went down and her jaws relaxed from around the leg, the taste of blood strong in her mouth but the sensation of pain stronger. She stood for a moment, focusing her eyes on the dirt infront of her forepaws while swaying, finally raising those orbs at the sound of Whing's voice. "Whings... you're bleeding," she grunted seeing he had come out of this hunt just as bad as she, yelping softly as she tried to move her hind leg, feeling a stab of pain flood down her ribs and rump where she had been kicked. She couldn't tell if there was a break in her ribs but there was alot of pain. A broken rib was not good for a wild wolf, and the Delta prayed to the spirits it was just a nasty knock.
Laying down was definately feeling like a good idea at the moment and she let her body sag to the earth on it's side, leg's splayed out across the grass as she panted from exhertion aswell as shock and pain. "Well, that didn't go exactly as planned," she made an attempt to chuckle but merely winced and whimpered, "At least we took down the rascal right?" Emerald eyes narrowed at the new pack member's injuries and raised a forpaw to nudge his own paw in comfort. They both looked rather beaten, but in her eyes his commanding and actions had been top quality. Yes, he would make a fine hunter, even head hunter and she would have loved to have shown him some sort of pack-like affection had she not been recovering for a moment.

In his own pain, he wanted to crawl up into a ball - but such was not his nature. The young wolf cared too much for others and would hide his own pain for years if it meant taking care of another. He simply smiled her comment off, "Ah, I'm fine... We need to get you feeling better, though." Looking around, he furrowed his brow. They could use some water right now. He wasn't much of an expert at injuries, but he could tell Lilah needed to stay in place - a blow to the ribs was something undoubtedly painful and moving her could end in a lot of uneeded misery.
"I suppose we should rest here for a while, at least until you're feeling up to walking. You need to get some water as soon as possible, but I think that resting up would be a better start," he looked at her, and suddenly feeling a sharp pain in his shoulder, shifted his weight. "I could carry you to water, if it wouldn't hurt your ribs," he nodded, glancing over at the kill. The beast was big - it was amazing to think they'd taken it down. It would be a good meal for the pack.
He lay down next to her, examining her wound. It looked bad and would need a lot of time and rest to heal, that much he could tell. He began sorting through the events - he'd arrived a shy wolf, and was now already feeling much more comfortable around Lilah, although he was still uncertain of the rest of the pack. He'd, of course, only met two pack members, both high ranking. He didn't feel he'd have much problem with the regular members, although he deemed himself a failure at dealing with higher ranks. He sighed - he'd get over it with time. Hopefully.

The wounds that the stag had given them both were far worse then Rouch had at first thought. Lilah was doing horribly, and Whings didn't look in much better shape. Still, he remained implace until the two finished speaking. Yes - this wolf knew the importance of others above himself. He would make a fine Capitan. The rank set in his mind, Rouch trotted out from his place in the trees trying to keep the look of anger of his face. The anger was not for anything Whings had done, but more the stag. The damned animal had gotten off a good one with Lilah, and that ticked him off to no degree. Luckily the anger decided it would be best to surface when alone, for there was no need to avenge her wounds - the stag was long dead. He dropped his rump next to Lilah's head, and offered a comforting nuzzle to the top of her skull. Words need not be exchanged, the nuzzle surely said a thousand words.
Turning his gaze toward Whings, he decided it would be best to tell him the good news before dealing with the damage the wounds that had been gifted to them. "You are a fine hunter, and a finer commander. It is rare to find a beast who can command others as well as he can command himself. For that - I appointed you the position of Lead Hunter. Congratulations Commander, don't let the rank go to your head." He offered a smile, which was rather difficult as his mind kept screaming at him the wounds that covered them both and how bad they were. That brought to mind another point he should probably share, "I would suggest though - in the future - you not go after a beast so large with only one other. As you can see, the results can be quite painful. For a beast this size I'd recommend at least four others - maybe more. I'm impressed that you managed to take it down."
Deciding that everything that had needed to be said had been, the matter of their wounds could be taken back to. "You both need rest. I suggest not moving. If you need food, it's right there. For water ... I can figure something out." If only the healers hadn't gone off to teach the future healers of the pack what plants could heal what. That was an annoying matter really - considering that he had no clue of how to cleanse wounds other then water. Silent curses floated through his brain, he felt helpless. A feeling which did not come often and a feeling that was quite un-welcome. "How bad are you? Both of you." His mis-matched gaze drifted from Lilah to Whings, back and forth until one of them answered. It would be easier to do this if he knew the pain they felt.

Lilah managed a small smile at Whings' offers of help before he gave up and too rested. "Don't worry yourself Whings. We both just need some good rest," her voice trailed off when she heard the approach of another through the ground from her position, raising her head just in time to recieve a soft nuzzle to her crown. A grin sprang across her maw, and of all things to happen in such a situation, her tail began to pump happily against the ground. She craved affection, and such a gesture from Rouch lifted her spirit. She saved any happy exchange of words for later however, as the Beta looked too troubled to take such a conversation lightly. Always lost in a world of worry was dear Rouch.
Lilah's face continued to brighten however as the Beta spoke to Whings, giving him an official title of Aryia. "Well earned Whings," she nodded her head in congratulations before returning it to the ground to rest beside Rouch's rump comfortably, wincing slightly at the sigh she released that strained her ribs unintentionally. She listened to his deep voice from her position, glancing between the two males while this happened before lastly leaving her gaze on Rouch's forepaws that rested at her eye level.
"I am fine truly Rouch. Just a little battered," she would have given a shrug of her shoulders but she thought better of it, a lttle nervous about what movements she could make without hurting herself, "I think our new Head Hunter could use a visit to the healers however, with cuts like that." Concerned emerald eyes scanned up and over the blood present on his smokey pelt then back up to Rouch in question.

Whings was just about to attempt convincing Lilah he was okay when Rouch appeared from behind him. He turned, lowering himself as usual, though with every encounter he was becoming less overdramatic with his submission. He hoped Beta wasn't upset at him that Lilah got hurt. He looked angry, and he saw a glance at the beast he had taken down. Whings understood that Rouch was angry not at him, but the stag.
He listened to Rouch speak, watching him carefully. With his every word Whings' eyes grew wider in shock, and by the end a wide grin had spread over his face. He nodded and offered a shy chuckle at the last comment - he himself knew that the stag had been much too large.
Whings quietly awaited his turn as Lilah spoke, then piped up. Although he was shy to admit his pain - he would much rather pretend he wasn't hurt so he could help take care of Lilah - he awkwardly did so. "My shoulder hurts, mostly. My cuts will be fine." Stubborn Whings was always reluctant to telling others of the pain he felt. He much preferred to help others than himself, though he knew in the current situation that Rouch was there to take care of Lilah. Whings could handle himself.
He didn't know if he could walk, and for the moment, he didn't want to try. He would much prefer to sit there and wallow until the pain subsided for a mere second - at which point he would force himself to find some water. So, he lowered his body to the ground, carefully avoiding moving his shoulder around too much (though there were a few pained grunts). He looked back up at Rouch and smiled shyly, "I think I want a good nap, for now."

The comical expression that crossed Whings face as his rank was presented, caused Rouch to offer a broad grin. The shy chuckle seemed to prove that the male knew he was chancing it, and Rouch could have saved his breath telling him so. Now came the time to fuss over wounds and act like a worried nurse maid, he hated that part of his job. But, if a nurse maid he needed to play - he'd be the best nurse maid this side of Ayria had ever seen. "Lilah, you're wincing in pain every time you breath. You call that a little battered?" The humor was mixed in with the worrying tones of a mother who's child had just fractured her leg while falling out of a tree. He allowed her to reflect on that, as he turned his attention on Whings. Cuts gallor. That stag had certainly put up one hell of a fight before it finally layed down to rest for the final time.
"Nap away my friend, you deserve it after that work you've done." A quick glance around proved no other wolves in site, and so he'd have to leave them both to gather a healer. But that could wait for at least a little while, Whings could at least. He wasn't so sure about Lilah, her boundless energy might not be enough to return her to full swing.
(Short ><; I'm sorry.}
