--Whings--
The scent Whings' nose was following led him to a forest. Although it might not have been the closest pack, it was in a very pleasant land. He smiled to himself, he liked the forest. He was a forest type of guy, in his opinion. Very humble. His mind began to ramble about his similarities to a forest (although not important enough to word out), and he padded along a small trail leading inward. The scent grew stronger.
He soon went from cheerful to frigthened, and then into his I-will-never-join-a-pack routine. He didn't want to approach an alpha (as he had no idea about the going-abouts of that), but he also didn't want to be just sitting there, appearing an intruder. He decided to just keep walking, until either he found someone or someone found him.
With only his thoughts to accompany him, Whings was becoming very self-concious. He was imagining being rejected. Imagining the tests they'd give him. Would they be hard? He could catch them a dinner to prove himself. But, what if they already had someone to hunt for them, someone much better than Whings? Hunting was all he was good at. Maybe, he thought, he could be their prey dummy...
Eventually, Whings grew tired of walking. He had not found anyone. He stopped and sat down, with an exasperated look on his face. He wondered if he should howl, if they'd come to him. He didn't want to sound needy, or interupt something important. But, he wanted to see an alpha, and he'd yet to find one. Lifting his head, he let out the friendliest howl he could possibly muster. He smiled to himself, satisfied with his job. Now he would wait.

After a good romp and play with her older packmate Rouch, Lilah was feeling in high spirits, especially after getting in one last comment on him tiring too easily because of his age. The young Delta chuckled to herself at that memory, bounding higher than was necisarry over a fallen tree. Now what to do? Well, the day was growing late; perhaps she should hunt when dusk had fallen.
It was much easier to take down prey when the light played tricks on their eyes and the birds were kicking up a noise as they began to roost for the night. Yes, it was a plan, and the multi-shaded wolfess gave a slow sway of her brush, quite satisfied with her ability to plot out her comings and goings. No newcomers had shown up today. Well, one howl had sirened to the midday but Rouch had gotten to the female before her.
That had disappointed her somewhat, as it was almost a competition to the pup-like wolf when going to greet newcomers. She hoped Rouch's tired grumpiness hadn't scared the new wolfess away, and Lilah snickered to herself at the joke only she heard. A more prominent noise caught her divided attention however, causing her dainty paws to stop in their tracks and dark auds to become completely vertical.
A newcomer! Yes! She dashed immediately without a second thought, chocolate coat a blur through the trees as she raced toward the howl seeking acceptance. She would beat old Beta Rouch if it was the last thing she did. The small wolfess leaping dramatically out into the open, skidding to a hault infront of the smokey pelted newcomer, a look of triumph written all over her friendly face as she posed, expecting for Rouch to trundle along after her.
Emerald eyes completely ignored the stranger at first and his reaction, as she scanned for the Beta's form, only for him not to appear. "...Spoil sport," she grumbled, snuffing in Rouch's general direction before turning her bright face toward the newcomer, "Hello! I am Delta Lilah; may I take this opportunity to welcome you to the marvelous lands of Aryia, much better than any other."
She chuckled to herself, tail raised in a dominant but friendly manner, "Can I assist you in any way?"

As she leaped in, Whings' first thought was that he was being attacked. He stepped a few inches back, alarmed. The wolfess began looking around, and Whings grew slightly confused. He pawed at the ground nervously as the wolfess muttered to herself.
As her attention turned to him, Whings immediately put his tail between his legs as far as he could get it. He lowered his head as she greeted him, "Hello, I'm Whings," with his head still tilted down, he looked upward at her, "I was interested in joining this pack?" He held himself back from making a self-concious comment about himself. He figured that maybe, if he didn't tell them he found himself a failure, they'd like him more.
He found himself awkwardly pawing at the ground again. Whings was incredibly nervous. Heart pounding in his ears, the wolf lowered his head a little more. He supposed he shouldn't be so uncomfortable, but this was a new thing. He hadn't even grown up in a pack. The only pack-life he'd ever seen was being kicked out of their territory. He knew, of course, how to be submissive (part instinct, part growing up with Skah), but he still felt he could learn in the subject.
He looked up at the wolfess once again, and smiled as comfortably as he could, and prayed she couldn't see his nervousness.

Lilah blinked and tilted her head in a puzzled way as the male who was taller than her at full height, lowered his body so low to the ground he may aswell have been laying down. Emerald eyes blinked again as she raised a wolfish eyebrow at his behaviour, not catching on at all that she had scared the poor stranger to death.
She could tell that he was as nervous as a pup on his first hunt however, no matter how hard he tried to cover it up with that careful smile up at her. "Well... welcome Whings," she sat with a soft grunt and slow wag of her tail, tongue rolling out of her mouth in a friendly casual pant from her running, "No need for such formalities on my account though. I can take you to an Alpha if you so wish to join the Aryian pack."

Whings softened a bit at her friendliness. He thought, however doubtfully, that maybe it wouldn't be so hard to join. He lifted himself up a little (although not much) and looked her in the face. The first thought that came to him was how healthy she looked. Living in a pack must be much better for your health than being a nomad.
The second thought he had was that she looked tired. Not in a bad way, but a happy way. Like she'd just been having fun. And then it hit him like a big brick; he'd be joining a community. He'd be having fun with other wolves. He'd be hunting with other wolves. He'd talk to other wolves. This thought made him smile. Whings like alone time, but he also enjoyed company quite a bit, and he'd been lacking that company for a very long time.
His smile turned to the wolfess, and he regarded her comment. "Yes, I would like to see an alpha," he said shyly, his head remaining in its position but his tail going down the slightest bit, "that would be very nice."

Lilah's own wolfy grin broadened almost impossibly so as she saw the newcomer's spirits rise after taking in her appearance and friendly aura. He looked as if he'd travelled far, and by the way he acted, had not come across many wolves. Well, many that were civil and friendly anway. "Ah, good!" Lilah sprang to her feet once more as Whings piped up even though his voice was still shy and careful, "Come, come! Follow me and we shall find Alpha Cronic or Alphess Vette."
Lilah let loose a high-pitched howl that identified her mainly, but also held a searching message for an Alpha. Emerald eyes sparkled joyously toward Whings and she yipped softly as she broke into a lazy trot across the lush territory. A sudden thought flashed through her cheerful but no so bright head however. Had not Rouch mentioned the Alphas were in council with Breakbone?
The Delta paused in her step with a small thinking frown on her face, letting loose a second howl for Beta Rouch, hoping he was not busy with addressing the other newcomer. The Alpha's preffered to accept newcomers personally, but if they were busy, secondary opinion was needed. At least a temporary acceptance from Rouch would suffice until Cronic and Vette were finished discussing important matters. "I am not sure whether our Alphas are busy at the moment or not," she turned sheepishly to Whings after her call, "But do not worry. I am sure you are quite welcome in these lands until official acceptance has taken place."

Just as he had started to wander to the den claimed for him and him alone, a high-pitched howl chorused through the air. "A Beta's work is never done." He muttered with a little sigh, before trotting off in the direction of which Lilah had called for him. Hopefully she could make the long winded acceptance speech, one speech like that a day was more then enough for him. At least the flood of members was starting to increase after a period of rest. Besides - they could use all the members that wanted to join before the Chicotah sorted themselves out and finally got on the attack. His pace was not hurried, but leisurely and content. Lilah could handle the new comer until her got there, until then he wasn't going to rush and tire himself out.
Finally coming upon the pair his gaze went to the male and studied him a bit, before he plopped his rump down next to favorite Delta. "You rang?" He said with good humor, before giving the one dubbed Whings a more thorough inspection. He seemed like a good wolf, and if Lilah wouldn't waste her time calling for him if she did not find the new canine suitable for pack life. Unlike when he was alone with Lilah, he held his posture high in dominance. Not as high as an Alpha, but high enough for the wolf to know he had the power to accept or reject him from the lands they all loved so dearly. "New recruit eh? Well, I am Beta Rouch. I trust you seek acceptance?" Came his voice once more after his inspection was complete, the male seemed worthy enough to join the pack. One had to wonder what his skills were though - but that would be found soon enough.

Whings trotted cautiously behind the Delta as she summoned him. He didn't say anything, although he was feeling more comfortable around her. He could only hope the rest of the pack was as friendly as Lilah. Smiling softly to himself, he decided that Lilah slightly reminded him of his mother. He didn't quite catch why, but he considered her homeliness and motherliness to be the reason.
And soon, a new face appeared. Whings could tell that this new wolf was higher ranking than Lilah. He stopped and lowered his tail and head. He listened to the Beta talk, before raising his eyes slightly. "Hello, Rouche," he smiled shyly and uncomfortably. "I'm Whings. Yeah, I'm interested in joining."
Being around Rouche made Whings even more uncomfortable. He was friendly, but Whings wasn't used to being around such high ranking wolves. Although he seemed quite confident now that he would get in the pack, he wondered about ranking. He would likely be an omega, he thought, and would be around much, much higher wolves than he daily. He realized then, how unprepared he had been about joining a pack.

Lilah was quite surprised that Rouch had responded so quickly and the Delta was barely a minutes walk from she and Whing's initial meeting position before the Beta showed his face. Her rump wiggled uncontrollably as her tail wagged, but suppressed the urge to jump at him playfully as he came to sit by her. She settled for the affectionate action of rubbing her side against his chest, the way a cat would do to it's Master's leg. "I'm impressed you came so quickly," she yipped happily before sitting off to the side, "This is a newcomer seeking acceptance."
She sat quietly but attentively as the two males introduced themselves, dancing emerald eyes flicking from one to the other as they gained a familiarity. Whings again seemed intimidated, but Rouch was merely doing what any responsible Beta should do; establishing his dominance. Otherwise any newcomer could waltz in and start ordering people around. Perhaps Lilah needed to start doing that, but she was sure she'd only start giggling at herself.

Perhaps Lilah would have been given a more affectionate greeting if he was not playing Mr. In Charge at the moment. Instead he settled for lapping at her nape playfully as she took on a very feline-like appearance. " Well of course, I have absolutely nothing better to do with my time." A rueful grin over-took his face, before attention returned to the new comer. Whings his name was? Now came the time to ask him why he deserved to be in the most flourishing pack of the entire lands. Rouch couldn't help but notice how he seemed intimidated, well that wouldn't do! Not at all. To be intimidated by your higher rankings was absolute mayhem. Hopefully the wolf would get over his fear in a few weeks time, or else problems would abound. And with these thoughts on his mind - he began the initiation process, " And what would you bring to Ayria? Do you have any skills that make you stand out from any other wolf seeking a home?" Perhaps it sounded rude, but it was the way to join a pack. All possible recruits had to have some sort of skill (or great potential) before acceptance could take place. (Short ; Sorry)

Whings was feeling under intense pressure at this moment. He knew that this was all about him, joining the pack. He became scared again, that he would be rejected. Both sets of eyes were on him.
At their display of affection, the grey wolf became hopeful. Maybe he would make friends like that! Whings longed to be part of a family like this. He knew that he wouldn't be treated with such affection as they were, but just the thought of being in a family at all made him get warm inside. He sat with his head down, waiting for Rouch to speak.
At the Beta's question, Whings perked up a bit. He could answer that! A sheepish grin fell onto his face, and he looked up at the male. "I'm a rather good hunter, Sir." He felt silly to be telling others what he was good at - he'd always been modest. He then felt compelled to add, "I've never worked in a pack before, though. I've been on my own. But I know I could greatly improve my skill if I were to be accepted."
He'd lost a bit of his nervousness, and was now feeling slightly more comfortable once again. These wolves weren't mean, at all. And maybe, after he'd been a member for a while, he would be a part of this family just like they were.

Lilah sat very happily watching the two speak, tail still wagging from the affection she had gained from the Beta. Emerald eyes finally landed on Whings, her ears raising as he grew a little more confidence and named his particular skill. A hunter? The Delta's tail wagged gently behind her and she nodded her head toward him. "I was just about to go hunting. Perhaps you could assist me?" her cheeful voice made the suggestion sound more like an idea for fun rather than a test for acceptance.
Lilah glanced to Rouch to communicate her reasoning through her eyes. They could judge his techniques themselves and get a full belly if luck ran their way.

Whings perked up even more at the suggestion. A test! Looking at Lilah, then to Rouch, then back at Lilah, he smiled. "That would be good," he nodded to Rouch, "if that's okay with you?" He could hardly contain himself. Whings loved the hunt, and he'd never hunted in pair. The young wolf's paws shifted excitedly in the dirt. Still slightly uncomfortable, though now eager at the same time, his youth showed greatly. A silly grin set on his face, he looked hopefully at Beta for approval at this idea. He felt he could do well for this pack, honestly. Although he was young, he knew he had this hunting thing going for him. He may not be the best, but his skills were yet to be honed. He imagined himself, much older, leading a hunt. (...I too have the short-post bug ;-

(Please do not post out of order ><; It confuses me, and bugs me. I'm not gone yet - and a little patience goes a long way.)
Listening intently to the reasoning behind why this wolf should be accepted into there lands he gave a nod. About to come up with an idea on how to test this new wolf - Lilah voiced her idea before him. Considering it for a moment, he finally nodded. Yes, a hunt would be a fine idea! For a moment he raised an eyebrow as this new wolf suddenly lost his fear, and found his voice. He changes personalty quite fast. Came his thoughts, a bit disgruntled. Other then the raise of any eyebrow he showed nothing that could be interpreted into any way of his thoughts. "Alright, sounds like a plan."
After a moments thought he added, "I will not partake of course." For if he partook in this little hunt, Rouch would be far to concentrated on the hunt - and not at all concentrated on the skills of this wolf. For multi-tasking while stalking down prey was never a good idea. Lifting his rump, he looked curiously at the two. "Shall we be off then?

Lilah's body rose with her spirit as Whings seemed to lose some of his nervousness, taking her suggestion as an exciting challenge. She wagged her brush in contentment before turning her head to Rouch with a proud snuff, only to be met with his disguntled serious expression. She was tempted to remove it but only smirked reminding herself to allow the Beta some moments of being a strong, sturly warrior wolf.
She took a few steps toward a hunting grounds she favoured as Rouch spoke up to carry on. "We'll try and save you some Rouch," she snuck in a cheeky wink back at the Beta before yipping with instruction to the newcomer before tearing off across the lands. She knew Rouch would follow in his own time and watch from a distance, studying Whings and his moves. Lilah would aswell, but she found it hard to keep her attention anchored to one thing, let alone two.
For now she enjoyed the feeling of the dusk's breeze in her soft fur and the almost whisper like sound her paws made across her home land.
