A small little story I'm typing up for the heck of it. There is a plot line I just haven't reached it yet. I do allow crtiz just not for my grammar.
Chapter 1
Blue gaze seemed to sparkle as the last traces of the days surprise mvoed onward into the trees. A black colored feather was clutched firmy in hand as he turned to head home. Weather or not this was a dream or reality seemed to fly over the teen’s head. Even the thought of if his friends belived him didn’t stop him.
The bird Ed had just saw was one of great beauty. Black feathers with the slightest hint of red and ice blue eyes unlike most birds. And wings span that could only be challenged by that of an eagle. The most wonderful bird and he didn’t even know if he would see one like it again.
Ed twirled the feather between his thumb and forefinger, eyeing the beauty and design. It didn’t even seem to be real. Each part, each groove, so perfectly placed it was hard to imagine something of such high level of wonder could come from an animal of nature.
Eyes blinked in confusion as one of his friends ran over to him, smiling and waving. The feather remained in a firm grip, but a smile replaced the look of pure confusion.
“Hey, Ed, what cha got there?” his friend asked, looking at the plumage. He snatched the feather from him and eyed it curiously, spinning it one way then the next. “Looks like a crow feather. Why’d you keep it? Crows are dirty.”
“It’s not from a crow, Robert,” Ed replied, grabbing the feather back and smoothing it out. He knew how his friend hated being called by his real name but it always helped when trying to make a point. “I don’t know what kind of bird it was from but it was awesome. Black and red. Blue eyes. I’ve never seen anything so amazing.”
The sound of Robert holding in laughter was heard from next to him. “First off, it’s Ro not Robert. Second, how do you know? Maybe it was one of those special birds. Ya know, the ones that are close to extinction.”
“Endangered? Maybe…” Ice blue eyes traveled to the feather in hand. “Hey, Ro, you know those stories we hear. The ones about dragons and unicorns.” Slowly Ro nodded, eyeing his friend with confusion etched all over his face. “What if it was one of them. Like those big firey birds, a phoenix.”
The held in laugher was now freely released but not how Ed would have liked. It was directed at him. “Are you serious, dude?!” More laughter followed this statement. “Those are nothing but myths like leprocauns and mermaids.” Laughter still pouring from his lips, Ro turned to head to his house, the opposite direction of Ed and his feather.
With a frown the male sighed before continuing his way home from the school lot. His grip on the feather just tightened as Robert made fun of him and the feather he found. Ed’s slow place soon turned into a run, legs pumping as he made a mad dash home. He didn’t want to see his friends. They, like Robert, would make fun of him for his beliefs. The park was right in front of him now but Ed didn’t stop like he normally would. The trees were just green blurs and the kids laughs mere buzzes in his ears. He would have continud running, not looking back or even bothering to watch where he was going if someone hadn’t stopped him.
“Hey! You!” a feminine voice sounded behind him.
Ed stopped. He couldn’t ignore someone. It went against his nature more so than anything did. Blue eyes turned to the girl facing him. She had light brown hair reaching just past her shoulders and a black baby tee with silver designs on it. Her pants were cargos similar to his own.
“Who are you?” the teen boy asked as the girl moved right over to him.
She didn’t bother to answer, just glanced at the feather once and glared up at him. “Where did you get that?” It was a demand and not a question. Just her look told Ed not to argue. Hands went to her hips and the glare remained there.
“I….found it.” It was true. He had found the feather but it was also given to him from the bird. Why was she so interested in his feather all of a sudden? It’s not like it was valuable or anything. It was just a feather. Yeah. Just a feather nothing more.
The girl snated the black item away from Ed and examined it with great care, almost as if it was glass china. “What is it?” Her blue eyes continued to scan over the feather.
Was she stupid? What was it? A feather of course! “It’s a feather.”
“No!” Ed was taken aback by her tone. “What is it? A crow feather, eagle, phoenix? What?” She held the red tinted feather back towards Ed. At first the teen thought she would keep it and hesitated before taking it back.
She confused him. Wasn’t she scared of someone making fun of her for guessing such a thing? Didn’t she know that phoenix’s were only mythical and not real? “I-I don’t know,” he stuttered, glancing down at the feather. “I just found it.” The last words were mere whispers.
A sigh escaped her lips. “Kodi. My name is Kodi. That feather is different. Do not lose it until we find the bird that it came from.”
“Uh…Ed.” He was about to turn back to go home but stopped. Did she just say we? “And what do you mean ‘we’?”
With a small snort of laughter Kodi moved past Ed. “We are going to find the bird. Me and you.”
“And when did you deside that?” He turned around to face the smiling girl, wondering what was going through her mind. She shrugged and continued walking. Ed, not wanting to be left behind and curious as to where she was going, followed. “Where are you going?”
“Hm?” Golden eyes looked back at him. “To your house. I have to know where you live incase I see something.”
“What about me? How will I find you?”
“Whistle.”
Chapter Two
Three days had passed since Ed had met Kodi and he had yet to see her again. He went back to the park with the feather in hand just to see if she was there and to ask her about the feather. But no matter where he looked Ed could just not find her.
Blue eyes glanced at the alarm clock next to the bed. The red numbers read 12:14 am. With a sigh he rolled over, back to the window. The moon was full and reflected light into the room, casting a glow on the objects caught in it’s light. Ed closed his eyes to try to go to sleep but he couldn’t. The feather kept drifting into his mind.
There was a tapping noise on his window and Ed groaned rolling over to look gazed at the window. Kodi was there, tapping on the window while standing on the railing of the small balcony. Ed wasn’t rich but his parents could afford nice things every now and then. He sat up almost intantly, sleep gone from his body.
“Kodi!” Ed gasped, throwing the covers off of him. He could hear the girl growl though the window and it scared him slightly. So he slept in his boxers. Not like he was the only guy who did that. Ed opened the sliding glass door, stepping back to let Kodi though.
The girl happily stepped into the room, smiling slightly as she did so. “I got a lead.”
“Lead? About the bird?” Thoughts instantly went to the feather currently in a box in his closet. Kodi needent answer for her look said it all. Without another word he turned to his closet, grabbed some clothes, and made a mad dash towards the bathroom.
Five minutes and many colorful words and fashion clashes later Ed and Kodi were finally ready to leave the house. The feather was clamped firmly in hand as they snuck from the home. Ed wasn’t worried about his parents. They were fast asleep and wouldn’t wake up for hours.
“We need to go to the forest,” Kodi whispered, keeping to the shadows of the buildings. Her attention was kept souly on the task at hand and not the stumbling teen behind her. Ed couldn’t believe the pace she was going at. It was less than a run but way more than a jog and whenever he caught up to her she’d just go faster.
It was still another ten minutes of ducking and doging though the shadows before the two teens made it the to forest. The shadows and trees looked like many monsters waiting for them to step into unfamiliar territory.
Ed gulped as he stopped at the treeline, eyeing the darkened woods nervously. Even though he rarely showed fear in front of people he didn’t really know, they was no way to stop his body from shaking. Blue eyes were wide slightly as Ed looked around. Kodi was already stepping into the trees.
“Are you coming or not?” she hissed, glancing back at him slightly. Kodi didn’t wait for an answer. She went right into the trees, the black cothing she was wearing blending into the shadows. With a small jump in surprise Ed ran after her, clutching the feather close to his side.
Ed continued to stumble through the grasses, tripping over hidden roots and rocks. “Keep quiet, Ed!” he heard the girl upahead growl. How was he supposed to? Everything was hidden in the shadows of the trees and impossible to see.
Kodi stopped. Ed could tell because the only sound he could hear was his own stumlbing. There was a break in the trees from what he could tell. When he did finlly manage to reach the spot Kodi was at everything, time included, seemed to stand still. He was right. There was a break in the trees only it was more like a small circluar clearing.
Mouth hung open in awe and Kodi had to elbow him in the ribs to bring the teen back to reality. Ahead of them was the bird. The magnificent black and red feathered bird with the most magnificent ice blue eyes. Ed was shocked at the size of the bird. At least eight feet high with wings that could stretch so far it would tke five eagles each to make the size of one massive wing.
The bird’s extravigant head swung towards the two teen. Feathers ruffling slightly. Pale yellow colored beak lefted towards the clouded skies and a cll emmited from it’s vocals. The sound was amazing. It would male even the best singers seem like amature second graders.
This was it. They had found the source of the feather. Ed couldn’t belive it. Kodi had actually brought him to the bird
