.ooc. Tok and I can't be at all the threads at once, and Toksyc is really busy with other things so I'm holding a recruitment with Shadow. All new wolves that haven't already made a thread for acceptance are asked to come here and ask for acceptance here. edit by Taco: Occasionally if I have time, I'll bring BB in here as well.
.ic. A new day was beginning. The birds were singing happily high above all’s heads in the trees thriving with the rich color known as green. Shades of green exploded like a swirling fire of beauty in Shadow’s brightly colored eyes. Spring was here, and a new season had begun. Given the okay from Breakbone, the beta was holding a recruitment as the sudden boom in wolves seeking acceptance in the Bloodback Mountains had the beta and alpha constantly going from all directions of the territory to meet them all and to reject or accept them into the pack. That will all end today, hopefully; or at least for a while.
Walking to a semi-large rock that was only half a foot lifted from the ground at one end, in which the way she will be facing, she thought of the rock to be the best place for the recruitment to start. The howl she will give way with will go further—she hoped—if she was taller. Shadow was full grown by now, and was for a year or two earlier to this day and the previous, which is where the rock comes in. Now on top of it, she sat her haunches down, blood red splattered tail curled around her left side, hugging her hindquarters.
Her head lifted backwards, and her throat seemed to grow longer with the gesture. Closing her eyes, she opened her jaws into an “o” shape. Out from it came the sound of her beautiful, middle-pitched howl. She hoped it would travel for miles more than usual, and now all she had to do was wait. The music from her jaws was the tune of the Lady Beta of Bloodback Mountains holding the recruitment. Her head lowered, looking straight ahead with bright eyes, awaiting for the first wolf to hear her howl and be the first to arrive to her rock and ask what she’d howled to hear.

With a soft sigh Different padded into the very edge of Bloodback territory. She realised with a shiver that from now on, the lands would only grow more and more lacking in foliage. Being a foreigner, she was more accustomed to thick swaths of towering pines and soft, leafy underfoot. The rock was a terror to the newcomer, and ever step was met with a shiver of distaste as the gravel wore down her delicate pads. She shook her dark ebony pelt self-conciously. She stood out on the crimson stone with her unusual coloration, and it made her all the more uncomfortable. The she-wolf pressed her ears against her head and pressed on, hoping to reach some other wolves before night fell.
However, as she continued to scour the area for some sign of life, she seemed to get herself entirely lost. She let her tail brush the ground as she wearily trod the endless rocks, and she found she had aquirred a strong loathing for the landscape. It was absoulutly destroying her claws, filing them down to near stubs. She sat down in frustration and, at last, closed her eyes to block out the sun, which bore down mercilessly with such little foliage and heated the stone quite painfully.
Different stretched her forelegs out and stood at last, then set off at a random direction, hoping to come across either something to eat or someone who could get her to be a Bloodback as well, which was her initial cause for padding in these mind-numbing plains. Her ears pricked with curiosity as she heard the summoning howl, and, deciding it would be better than wandering the stupid rocks forevermore, trotted cheerfully in the direction of the sound, hoping for the ideal situation and trying to push away creeping thoughts of dread and self-doubt.

.ooc. Since it wasn't mentioned, I threw in that Different hadn't shown herself yet.
.ic. No more than a few moments later, Shadow realized that her howl had been heard already and it was summoning up a wolf. Sniffing the air, she found some vital information about her. But acceptance or rejection wouldn’t be decided until they had spoken to one another.
Only three questions were to be asked by Shadow, and she needed all three to be answered before her decision could be made. Name, Business on the lands, what good can they be to the pack. The questions were simple, and she didn’t expect a huge speech from any of them as an answer. Shadow didn’t have high standards for newcomers, but once they are members they are still proving themselves worthy every day they reside in the lands.
She shifted her weight to her right side uneasily. She was patient, but she did feel nervous about not having this female show herself yet. For all she knew, the wolf could be stalking her and pounce at any second. Though Shadow hadn’t made herself ready for anything but friendly newcomers, she was more than able to hold her own. War was constant and it wasn’t like Shadow hadn’t fought in any of them.
Not wanting to wait any longer, she opened her jaws again but not to howl this time, but to speak in her regular voice. Not demanding, but more like asking. “Show yourself…”

( Well, she was a little ways off and was sort of just moving forward.. Sorry, I didn't really explain that, or give you anything to say. I'm bad at this. x.X )
Different blinked in confusion. Her idea of padding aimlessly through the land was most definitly a failure, so she decided to simply head toward the voice. After some time of simply walking blindly forward without a clue of her wherabouts, she made it. She spotted the lone figure atop the rock easily, and quickened her pace. She didn't think to make any sound to alarm the she-wolf, although she was downwind. But hey, she had been summoned. Not that she had exactly hurried there.
Different wondered if she would be good enough for the pack. She was a fair hunter, quick on her feet and stealthy because of her lanky build, but better at running and dodging than actual fighting. Maybe Bloodbacks were looking more for the muscular type who could easily beat the life out of a normal animal. Different laid her ears against her head as she pondered. She was an alright warrior, though, really. At least, she could jump on her enemie's back and eat their spine. Not literally, of course.. That would be frightning. She wondered if it were possible to devour the spine of a living wolf. She decided to attempt it the next time she was fighting. Oh, the fun. She sat down in a gravely spot and tilted her head as she stared at the beta.
"Ahem?"

A lanky wolf with green and white colored pelt showed. Her first recruit for the day, maybe. The wolf sat in front of the beta and with staring eyes, “Ahem?” Well, what was that? Shadow decided to ignore it as she didn’t know if that was to be rude or just this wolf’s way of saying “hello” or something like that.
“Welcome to the Bloodback Mountains. I’m Shadow, Lady Beta of the pack. You have been wandering around the lands as you have heard my call for new recruits. I ask your name?”
Her head tilted to the side as she asked for her name. Knowing this wolf’s name first would prove to be much easier for the remaining two questions to follow.
Looking at this wolf sitting before her, she saw that her lanky build would have her able to move swiftly. Shadow didn’t know her fighting skills as of yet, but she already had two ranks for this female in mind. But if she proves to be unworthy of this pack when she has been accepted, she’ll be banished or bumped to the bottom along with Nighteye, Pisca. In other words, she’ll lose the rank she had been given and receive the rank Omega. Shadow wasn’t the one to mess with and she won’t take any crap. Screw with her you will be punished and there’s no question about that.

She perked her ears up plesently, sitting up straight and bowing her head slightly in aknowledgement of the she-wolf's higher status. Different spoke in a soft bark, attempting in vain to be polite. She was really out of practice, wandering alone hadn't done well for her habits or her diet.
"Thank you." She said, bowing her head yet again, then realising that she would totaly be overdoing it and straightened herself so quickly she nearly toppled over. She coughed nervously. "My name is Different. Erm... Its quite a pleasure to meet you, Shadow. I was hoping to, um, join the Bloodbacks."
Different sighed inaudibly to herself. She was so terrible at introductions. She hoped the regal wolfess didn't find her rude. She had traveled quite a ways to get here, being more used to a cool and humid atmosphere. But she was drawn, somehow, to this land, however much she despised the expanses of bare land. It just felt right.
She wondered if she would be able to prove herself worthy. She wasn't exactly acting perfect at the moment.. But she got jittery when she was anxious. She miseribly pictured Shadow chasing her off the lands and shuddered inwardly. Different averted her eyes from the dark-pelted Beta, praying to the skies for a chance. Well, no. More than a chance.

Shadow listened intently to Different’s lexis. She had good manners, despite the looks of her being alone for so long by her nervousness. But good manners weren’t good enough. She needed skills too. If she wasn’t useful in anything, whether that be hunting, fighting, knowledge, or healing, Shadow couldn’t let her in. It was harsh, but it was her job to make sure that rule is followed, as it may lead to the fall of the pack if she screwed up too many times, or in the worst case scenario, once.
“Pleasure to meet you as well, Different. But I would like for us to meet again, as I need to know your skills. If you won’t be useful to us in any field, I’ll have to ask you to leave the lands immediately.”
Shadow hated being harsh like this, she loved Different already. That has happened to new members in the past, getting that spot in Shadow’s heart that just made her love you when you haven’t even told her your own name yet. Her bright purple eyes closed a little, flashing black lids. Not in a sense that she was bored, or narrowing them in a rude way, but in the sense of utter sadness as she imagined part of what Different was so jumpy about.
I’d hate to send her back if she doesn’t have any skills. She seems like a nice girl and would bring joy and happiness here, but I can’t let her in if she has no use. It’s a shame to be like that and I hate it, but it’s for the best afterall.

She listened to the beta's words quite seriously, scrunching her eyebrows in thought at thimes and tilting her head slightly at the she-wolf's miserible expression. Different nodded her head slowly in understanding.
Of course, they wouldn't want some useless blob hanging around and sapping their pack's strength. But really, what use would she be? She hadn't ever gotten a chance to learn much from a packmate, living the majority of her life alone. But with so much free time she had discovered a few helpful herbs... She could hunt and fight alright, as well, but how would that offer any talent to her packmates? She was at a loss for what to say.
"Alright. Where, and when shall we meet?" She asked curiously, looking a little unsettled. What if she didn't pass the test? "Erm, as a warning I must say I have never entirely focused myself to anything other than traveling. I suppose that I'm a better prey-hunter than anything, but I know some medical things, too."
She prayed wordlessly to the skies to let her be accepted into the pack. But it was true... She was a talented hunter and was accustomed to weaving silently through undergrowth, what with her wiry form. She would also act as a good spy, or even a scout for the pack. Her coat blended nicely with the night's shadows, like a coal-spattered smudge. She knew exactly thirteen different remedies, not that they would be much use here. She had left the plants behind, in a grassy valley too far away.

.ooc. Sorry it's short, sister is kicking me off for a bit. >>
.ic.
Different had nodded, showing her understanding. Good, Shadow thought nervously. Now please let her have qualities useful to the pack! “Meet? For you to show your qualities? I cannot leave my post, just incase another wolf comes along wanting to join, but you can just tell me and I trust that it will be the truth?”
Different told Shadow of her qualities. To the beta’s knowledge, they haven’t had a wolf in the healing business in the pack before. Maybe Shadow could use that and her hunting skills also. Maybe they could meet up later when Shadow was off duty to she can see what Different knew about the healing herbs and such. If she was good enough at that, then she would be extremely useful in the time of war.
“Welcome to the Bloodback Mountains, Different. Next time we shall meet, you will be able to prove your qualities to me at that time, meaning your medical abilities. Then we will move on to your hunting skills. And after that I will appoint you your rank to the pack. But for now, be gone and explore while you have the time.”

Different blinked in momentary puzzlement. "Oh... okay." she said, her head tilting ever so slightly to the left. She silently hoped her hunting would be worthy enough, since as she had said, the herbs she was accustomed to were far behind her. Of course, there was a small chance that those plants would flourish here as well... and she could always test them again and find out which ones were of any use. She nodded to herself. Of course. Things would work out.
She wagged her tail shortly, bowing her head once more. "Thank you. I will return when you summon me, Shadow." She then turned around and trotted down in the opposite direction from which she had came, paying close attention to the landmarks in an attempt to avoid becoming hopelessly lost again. She looked back at the beta before padding out of sight, howling a short and muted, "See you soon!"

Post by Cayden on Jun 21, 2006 6:41:37 GMT -5
A three toned tail fluttered like a flag in the Bloodback mountains. Swift scarlet paws quickly made way amongst the the rocks with speed and skill. Who was this carefree wolf? Cayden was his name. He was a pure Bloodback, or as pure as the bit of heritage he knew of. He had left his home to something unknown to him, but whatever it was beckoned Cayden to venture forward and towards the Bloodback Mountains. Maybe he was destined to become involved with what was happening to this world, or Cayden has just gone insanely mad as what everyone he used to know called him.
Attentive ears perked to a demanding howl. "Guess I have my work cut out for me, awww... that's no fun," he made a face then spoke aloud, "Oh well!" The canine gave a toothy grin and switched his direction of travel. The bulk of fur bounded across the rocky terrain, unafraid of losing his way; unafraid of whatever was to come.
The time passed quickly for Cayden for he throughly enjoyed the sound of wind whistling past his pinned ears. Shining silver visionaries swept their gaze over the land Cayden passed and his nose picked up scents of other lupins in the area. His lower jaw dropped to intake the air as he made a final lunge, daring himself to great speeds over the loose soil. Large paws spread out to offer more contact with the ground to prevent any lethal slips. With strong jumps Cayden lept over stumps and boulders.
"Closer, closer, almost there." The concentrated scents of two females led Cayden closer till even his sight could pick out the silhouettes of the wolves. The he-wolf knew it was time to stop his sprint and so he attempted. Sadly in the excitement 'the' Cayden actually miscalculated his momentum and the space he allowed himself to brake in. When the onyx female was in clear view Cayden stumbled over some random pebbles and fell head over heels forward. The weight of Cayden's body let him to continue sliding across the territory on his chin headfirst. He finally stopped when he crashed into the perch of the beta wolf. Thus he presented himself upsidedown with a mouthful of dirt and his goofy grin. The last action that happenned in this chain of events was the flopping-over-ness of his bushy tail over his face.

The next bloodback wolf to arrive did so more gracefully than the one before. The new stranger, a foreigner from the north, moved with the purpose and poise of a soldier accustomed to giving and receiving orders. With every step her compact body, smaller than average for her breed, spoke to her strength and cautious nature. Her coat paid homage to the winters of the northlands. She was pale of fur, pelted with cream and white and gray where bloodbacks native to these lands were dark brown and black. True to her breed, a burgundy dorsal stripe traced her spine from the base of her skull, thickening briefly behind the shoulderblades, and narrowing again to the tip of her tail. Or what was left of it, at least.
Her tail. In the north, where she had wandered from, to be "docked" was the worst sign of dishonor any alpha could force upon their underlings. And this femme, nearing her fourth or fifthth year (assuming these wolves age like real ones do....) had been docked, her once beautful, full, warm brush cut until it was a four-inch-long stump. A blasphemy to her existance. The foreigner was accutely aware of it, just as she was aware of her lack of name. When they took her tail, they took her name as well, adding insult onto injury.
But, somehow, she had walked on. And walked herself into the presence of a bloodback wolf she hoped would give her a home and a purpose. An old warrior, she needed something.... someone.... to fight for.
Her head fell into a bow to Shadow, eyes flicking to take in (with a note of suprise) the other newcomer. The one who had fallen and, evidently, was unable to get up. When she spoke, her voice seemed rusty, as if it had not been used in a long time. "Are you alright?" she asked Cayden. Eyes flashed to Shadow. "Am I interrupting, Lady?
