Light snuffling noises could be heard near the base of a tree within the depths of the Aryian forest. This tree wasn't necisarilly very special or looked any different from the others, but still Lilah had chosen it. The pup-like Delta sniffed and growled at the tree trunk, emerald eyes glancing up every so often with a short yip of frustration.
Perched up in the tree's branches was a squirrel, and quite a daring one to have stolen a bone the wolfess had been gnawing at in her boredom. Now, the matter of getting it back. She'd already tried jumping and snapping for it, only to hear her canine's clamp loudly over thin air. Now she was inspecting the tree, trying to find foot-holds deep enough for her paws to scramble up after the cheeky squirrel and teach it a lesson. But this plan was rapidly failing, causing the disappointed wolfess to whine at the base of the tree, looking up desperately at the bone. The squirrel ignored Lilah's antiques, scratching and banging at the deceased animal's bone as if it would find something of value inside.
A short snort was emitted by the Delta and she shook her pelt in order to rid her of the annoyance that was creeping up on her. She was always a cheerful soul afterall, and such happenings rarely kept her tail inbetween her legs for very long. That and her attention span wasn't the highest to speak of.
"Fine, keep it," she half-growled one last time up at the squirrel, "You're just a sneaky rat with a fluffy tail anyway..." Lilah began a slow walk away from the tree, heading in the direction of thinning trees when her sensitive wolf nose caught a different scent causing her to pause in her step, one forepaw pushing at the air as she tried to raise her nose higher to pinpoint the scent's location.

Mismatched gaze wandered aimlessly, curious to the whereabouts of the other members in this grand old pack of theirs. Vette and Cronic were off having strange talks with Breakbone, though he was not at all worried about those little talks. If they were important - Cronic would fill him in on all the details when the time came. The flood of newcomers had come to a stop recently, and it was time to bring them back. But how? From the gossip that had passed from canine to canine, the Chicotah were already well on their way to catching up to the numbers they had stored away. Even with Vette's bold move to hold a recruitment, there had to be a way to get more members. Stop thinking about this, take a load off old timer! You're starting to sound like a shriveled old fool. The thoughts brought a grin to his face, and for once he listened to himself without a second thought.
Ivorn paws bounded across the land that he had been proclaimed beta of, until familiar voice drifted into his ear. The grin grew wider, if their was anyone who could bring youth to a meeting it was Lilah. Listening to her voice and following its path, he couldn't help but chuckle at the words that greeted him. Leave it to the Delta to yell at a rodent about some predicament, as he entered the area he saw exactly what had happened. The squirrelly had a bone, he could figure out the rest from guessing. "Those rodent's giving you a hard time eh?" He called cheerfully as soon as he was at a nice speaking distance. Rank was not pressed, he sat lax as if he was none other then a subordinate speaking with a friend. There really was no need to press rank with Lady Delta, both knew their place.
Mismatched gaze traveled up to the squirrel, trying to formulate a plan in which would bring the bone safely to the ground. Curious glance was given around, but not an acorn was to be seen. Damn - well perhaps he could find another bone for beloved Delta sooner or later. A thought occurred, and glance shifted to the tree itself. Indeed, the squirrel had chosen to climb up an oak tree {Like it had any other choice, most of the tree's in this part were oaks} perhaps slamming into the tree would rattle the nuts loose. Of course, he wouldn't go through with attacking a tree until he was sure Lilah really wanted that bone. Lady Delta was not known to have the largest attention span, but the plan was held at ready reach in case this time was different.

The scent tickling her nose soon revealed itself with the sound of a deep and amused voice. Lilah's ears and tail shot up, a wolfy grin quirking her lips as she gave an excited whine at the arrival of her favourite Beta. "Rouch!" she yipped his named and scrambled over, feet not cooperating in her pup-like excitement, rear end wiggling with a great joy at seeing her older friend. Although he kept his postion relaxed, Lilah still remained respectful and kept her body lower than his, which wasn't too difficult to do considering her size. She gave his chest an affectionate head-butt before following his gaze to the squirrel still investigating her bone.
"Yes, they've grown bolder these past few days," she chuckled quietly, "But I'll catch one at it next time." She bared her teeth in a playful snap up at the cheeky squirrel. "You hear that Fluffy? I'll be waiting for you," she chuckled at herself and shook out her pelt, chocolates and tans shimmering together as she did so.
Lilah could see Rouch's mind calculating away as he surveyed the scene and she head-butted his shoulder as she walked past him with another affectionate whine. "Do not trouble yourself my dear Rouch. There are plenty of other things worthy of our attention than rodent riff-raff," Lilah instead busied herself with pawing at Rouch's tail with a fairly innocent expression before snorting and taking off through the trees, pouncing randomly at large insects that strayed into her path. Whether Rouch would follow this meaningless frolic was up to him, but Lilah's attention was yet again captured by new surroundings.

{So sorry this took so long! x_<; I've been museless with Rouch, but my muse has finally returned.} Grin danced across his face at the warm welcome he received from Lady Delta, he always had liked the youthful female. She brought a joy to the pack that only pups can joy, it seemed even the oldest members enjoyed her company and easy going personalty. " Good to see you too!" He cried with a chuckle, honestly meaning what he said instead of just a formality of terms when speaking with one you knew. Gaze once more returned to the fluffy rodent, curious to what exactly it thought it was going to do with a bone. The bone was half its size for cryin' out loud! " I suppose we'll have to teach them a lesson sooner or later then. We have enough to worry about, we don't need to add little fluffy rodents to that!" Simply a joke that was not meant to down-hearten the creamed female, though he highly doubted anything could do that. A trait he wish he himself could posses, the thoughts were soon shoved away as company replied and bounded off. Scarlet tongue rolled out in silent laughter as he watched her - plainly amused. I'd best go after her, I need some amusement after all. So instead of worrying his pretty little head off about new recruits and plans against the Chicotah he bounded off after the Delta grinning all the while. Sometimes it was good to go back to your roots! {Short }

(( No worries n_n -wiggles- ))
After swatting at a grasshopper with her lightly tanned paw, Lilah gave a snort sending a small cloud of a flower's pollen into the air infront of her. She gave a soft chuckle, and raised her form tall, emerald eyes searching for Rouch. There was nothing she loved more than wandering through her home lands with those from her pack. This was their land, and so they should enjoy it every now and then. "Keep up Rouch, or are you getting slow in your old age?" she gave a teasing growl back in his direction. He was not old really, but she liked to mention their considerable age gap in a playful way.
Lilah was just about the only wolfess that could get away with poking fun at her superiors and getting a laugh out of them. She had an almost spoilt personality in those regards and always managed to get away with most things with no more than the special cheeky twinkle in her eye. She waited for him to catch up, her tail swaying softly. "Yes, the last thing we need is a squirrel rebellion," she snorted at his comment, one ear flicking in amusement before continuing her relaxed trot through the forest.

At the comment of his getting on in years, a playful growl was forced forward as he continued his bound after the Delta. After she finally put herself to a stop he caught up easily responding loftily with, "The day I get slow in my old age is the day that you become an old timer." Grin danced across his face, surveying the packlands contently. They had it all, the view, the trees, and the strength but the newcomers that had wandered through this area seemed lacking. Bloodback was booming, for some reason or another while they remained healthy in their number of older timers. A quick shake of the skull brought these thoughts away, but he would have to remember to ask Lilah if she had any ideas at a later date. For now though, he was content to romp around the lands with her.
"Aye, a squirrel rebellion would be trouble. Perhaps we should send the little devil's to Chicotah - that outta keep them busy." Dubious glint shone in his eyes before it returned to the merriment that seemed to rub off whenever good company with low tension was kept. Mis-matched gaze traveled about the land studying every rock and tree that had long since been memorized, the only difference since he had become Beta in these things were the creatures who called them their home. Fuzzy rodents scampered about, while insects buzzed merrily to and fro. It was good to be home.

(( Sorry for the delay in replying; exams are creeping up on me >.o -beats them off with a stick- XD ))
She gave a snuffing wolf chuckle and a devious smirk at the mention of feeding the annoying squirrels to the Chicotah. "I am sure they would make fantastic rodent exterminators," she snorted in the general direction of the savage pack in mention, a small worried look flickering in her gaze before she snorted again and took to trotting along through the thinning forest.
Lilah did not like to dwell on the instability of packs outside their territory; it was much to forboding to linguer on. She glanced at Rouch with a small concerned gaze; she knew he would go mad within his own head, thinking and worrying about the protection of Aryia. Being a Beta was a noble position but also one of high pressure. She smiled softly at him as she watched his two-toned eyes scan over their home land.
For now, she would be more than happy to be the activator of some relaxed and light-hearted wanderings for the day. By the high heavans Lilah knew every pack member needed to unwind from the looming presence of war on their doorstep. The soft pelted wolfess smelt the river before she saw it, bounding toward it through the long grass to dip her muzzle into the refreshing water source.
Emerald eyes glanced over the wide river, the land on the other side barely visible. Lilah sighed and sat, waiting to see if Rouch would continue to keep her as company. She always half-expected to see her family's ears pop up on that horizon, but they never did.

A sort of 'guffaw' sound escaped his vocals at the idea that the wolves to the west would actually get rid of their problem of fuzzy little rodents. "I doubt they would be m'dear - the rodents would probably run them right out of their lands." Grin danced upon his face, as they continued their stroll through the pack lands. Ears remained perked for the sound of anything that seemed out of the ordinary, perhaps even for one of the Alpha's themselves to return from their oh so long conversation with Breakbone. A yawn drifted from his vocals as mis-matched gaze drifted along with Lilah's searching for something, but never finding that something.
Finally coming to a stop at the edge of a river, he planted his rump down. For now he had nowhere to go - and the Delta made him feel young (Actually - she made him feel old, but you'd never get Rouch to admit that.) The forlorn look that drifted into her eyes, caused an eyebrow of his own to quirk, "You alright?" He asked curiously, with the concern of a father or perhaps older brother, "You seem to have lost that cheer that drives me nuts." Grin planted onto his face, though it dwindled down to that solemn smile and look of curiosity. It wouldn't do if the most happy-go-lucky female of the pack suddenly decided to become depressed.
{No problem x3 I know how you feel. And excuse the shortness >>}

Lilah's gaze faultered from staring intently over the river as Rouch sat heavily next to her, emerald gaze coming to his mismatched one. She grinned softly at his comment before laying at his feet with a soft whine. "Do you think we will ever see the rest of our pack again?" she rolled onto her back, legs kicking at the air, forepaws coming to rest on Rouch's chest, pawing at him affectionately.
It was not like the Delta to remember being seperated from her family aswell as her packmates but coming to this river couldn't help but flash those images back through her mind. The confusion had been so intense and others ran about in a wild panic as packmates and family members were swept away or driven to the opposite side of the rising water.
She shook her dark brown crested head to rid those memories from her mind, concentrating on pawing Rouch's soft chest fur and looking up fondly at her packmate awaiting his opinion.

Bemused glance was given to Delta as creamed paws thudded against his chest. Nudging them with a return of affection, her question registered in his mind. "Of course we will." He replied, a little startled that she would ask such a question. "Why wouldn't we?" What would cause her to ask such a question? Beta knew little of her past, and had never asked seeing it an invasion of privacy. Even pack mates had to respect the bounds that came with history - for one wrong word can send any canine into a world of pain and suffering. He himself had never known a horrible past, having grown up in Ayria and working his way up the ranks without a drop of canine blood spilt on his part.
Gaze drifted to the watery abyss that seemed to stretch forever before them, before it returned to pack mate he had grown fond of. Though he was concerned about her sudden change of disposition, one couldn't say he was worried. If there was something she needed to get off her chest - she would get it off. Until then, he would be content offering as much moral support as he could possibly muster.

Lilah was quite happy with Rouch's answer and her tail wagged softly as she looked up at him, ceasing to prod at his chest to allow her paws to fold comfortably over her own creamy pelted chest. "No one gives me a straight answer when I ask them," she snuffed but continued to wag her brush gently, grass swishing beneath it, "I miss my family sometimes Rouch. Did you lose anyone the day of the flood?"
She had never brought it up simply because she never thought about it. Until she came to this place. Or perhaps it was blissful ignorance. It was hard to tell if the Delta had a certain knack and natural energy to be happy and cheerful, or if she just ignored all the troubles of the world. Either way, Lilah looked up at Rouch's regal position noting that he didn't look so old from this angle. Not that she would tell him that, she thought with a small cheeky smile to herself and another wag of her tail.

He chuckled at her response to the question, "Perhaps it's because they always feel like they have to talk down to you my pupish friend." He was simply teasing, and to take his words to heart would not be the most intelligent thing to do. Listening intently to her words, his head cocked slightly before it righted itself - as if knowing that being cocked would cause him to not look as old as he was. Without even realizing it, his own tail had begun to drag across the earth in a wave. A rare thing now a days to see even a hint of a wave in his tail. "I lost no one close to me, no. I think the only canine's I've ever lost that were close were my parents, but they died a peaceful death." He paused for a moment, as if to make sure that he had forgotten no one that might have been killed or lost to him before their time had come. None came to mind.
Flopping himself down beside Lilah (He was tired, by gum and there was no way he was going to remain up-righted.) the cheeky smile that flourished across her face was barely noticed. "Your family?" He asked, shooting a curious glance toward her. "I don't recall you ever saying anything about them before."

His deep chuckle and teasing comment made the Delta's bottom jaw jut forward in a grumbling pout. Alright, so maybe it wasn't fun to mock their slight age gap when it could be turned around on her like that. Lilah's tail still wagged however as she knew it was only in good jest. It made her smile to hear that Rouch had not lost anyone; he had enough to trouble him in his position rather than mourning for a lost family aswell.
Lilah remained on her back as he laid down in the soft lush grass beside her, her head turning to the side to watch his movements and lose her smile in an alert blink as he spke to her. It was true, she never did mention her family. But why mention something that only had a sad ending... so far anyway. "I was seperated from my family in the flood. My Mother, Father, Brother and Sister," she listed her small family that she longed to see again, "My sister Lily was swept away and Father jumped in after her. He is a very brave wolf... but I never saw them surface. Mother and Lilo were forced to the other bank."
Lilah returned her head to stare up at the sky, swatting lazily at a passing butterfly, a grin starting to resurface on her maw. It felt better than she had predicted in revealing this simplified information and she turned her head back to Rouch with emerald eyes sparkling once more. "Where are your Brothers and Sisters?"

The put that soon jutted from her jaw flung another chuckle of his into the open air. Pink tongue escaped his mouth, and poked out at her in a rather juvenile gesture. But she started it! It was at that moment that Rouch realized exactly how he acted around Lilah, like an immature little pup. The thought caused mis-matched eyes to roll in their sockets, before it was pushed away to never be thought of again. An ear cocked in Delta's direction, while the other flopped in habit toward the other side of the river. Gaze widened as the story of her family un-folded, and in all truth it surprised Beta. For such a happy-go-lucky female, she sure had a damn rotten past!
"I'm sorry." He replied after she had finished, resting his muzzle atop her creamed chest. "It's never fun to loose a family member, and it's down right terrible to loose them all at once." A smile was offered in an attempt to cheer up the mood that he was not aware Delta could have, "At least you have Ayria, and The Devil knows what we would do without you." An honest compliment that came from his lips, without even being forced. It was simply a truth that almost all who came in contact with female knew.
As she questioned of his own siblings, Rouch couldn't help but grin a rueful grin. "Well, I do believe you know my younger sister." Vette was the first canine that came to mind when speak of brothers or sisters came, but what of the others? Most have left Ayria for some reason un-beknownst to him. But that was there loss - for was not Ayria now the most prosperous pack out of all that had gained access to this land? "She just happens to be Alphess of this pack. As for the others, I'm not quite sure what became of them. Most left in search for their own lives."

A happy whine left her throat as Rouch rested his head on her affectionately and with sympathy. And his compliment would surely have made her blush sheepishly had she been human; for now she settled with pinning her ears back and giving a shy smile. It made life so much easier to have packmates such as he around, because Spirits knew she was affectionate to no end. She craned her neck, leaning her head forward to lick his cheek in thanks and fondness before laying back again with a warm smile. Her creamed paws rested over his cranium gently and listened to his rumbling voice once more.
"I know Vette you silly wolf," she prodded his head with a paw chuckling, "But yes, I was referring to the rest of your family. They left then? I suppose it's not uncommon for others to travel the world a little and make it on their own. After all, that's who newcomers are." Her tail wagged softly at the thought of new wolves to befriend. But for now she was more than happy to spend time with the Beta. They certainly had a bond.
"I hope more newcomers enter our lands," she sighed and pawed affectionately at his thick neck, grooming away a small patch of dirt, "I love our family as it is, but always need more recruits, especially in uncertain times like these."
